Expanding its portable X-Series range of components, iFi Audio’s £299 xCAN is a pocket-sized analogue headphone amp with the added convenience of Bluetooth to enable quality streaming from compatible digital devices. Housed in a similar lightweight case to the company’s xDSD (HFC 439), it measures 67 x 19 x 95mm (WxHxD) and weighs 127g. It eschews the USB audio connectivity and standalone DAC capability offered by its similar-looking sibling, and is strictly a headphone amp that offer 2x 1,000mW of power output to drive headphones connected to its 3. 5mm and 2.

With its 90mm-thick teardrop-shaped solid birch ply plinth, the new Elevation turntable stands out from the crowd, but the design is more about just looking good, with the high mass producing what Inspire claims is a rich deep bass performance and an agile presentation. Partnered with a 50mm solid acetyl platter that’s available in black or white, the distinctive record deck also features a dual belt pulley system and an aluminium bronze bearing. The Elevation offers 33, 45 and 78rpm speeds and the ability to fine-tune the pace using the strobe light that plugs into the back of the off-board PSU. The supply itself is a new quartz-generated Pro-Ject Strobo Speedbox, which it’s claimed will improve both the AC motor’s performance and the sound quality even further.

Described by Musical Fidelity as a complete solution allowing you to keep all of your music in one place, the M6 Encore 225 is essentiallya streaming audio player withan impressive selection of connectivity options. At its heart is a dual-core 64-bit Intel CPU with 2GB of RAM to ensure that operation is fast and to allow for upgrades as time goes by in an effort to ensure that it remains futureproof. The internal 1TB storage is claimed to be able to hold as many as 2,500 CDs (using the built-in CD drive’s bit-perfect ripping), but is also upgradeable should you need to add more as time goes by. Power output, meanwhile is quoted at 225W per channel into 8ohm and the M6 Encore 225 has the same power amplifiers under the hood as the Recommended badge-winning M6si (HFC 400), while a 32-bit/384kHz chipset is onhand for digital-to-analogue conversion.

It might have the appearance of a speaker that looks like it’s sinking into the ground on which it’s standing, but there’s a theory behind the rather unique design of XTZ Sound’s Tune 4 loudspeaker. Believing that the vast majority of people that have hi-fi setups at home tend to place their speakers below ear level – thus resulting in a less defined sound, due to the tweeter being off axis relative to the listener’s ear – Tune 4 has come up with the tilted baffle. And what about those that do have their speakers positioned at ear level, we hear you ask. Well XTZ Sound has thought of this and added a special foot.
