IsoTek EVO3 Gemini

Time to clean up your electricity to get the best from your hi-fi? IsoTek has the answer

A mains filter that is fitted with a standard 10A IEC C14 input socket, the EVO3 Gemini has two output sockets also rated at 10A. The unit features star earthing internally and a delta filter topology to ensure filtration of both common mode and differential mode mains noise. Common mode noise is interference that appears on the live and neutral mains connections simultaneously and is often caused by external sources, such as RFI, which affects both mains conductors. Differential noise is interference generated between the live wire and the neutral wire and is often created by the connected equipment.

The filtered mains is delivered to the two outlets, which are both independently isolated to prevent cross-contamination of any mains noise that is generated by the plugged-in devices. In addition, 13,500A of instantaneous spike protection is provided to safeguard the connected hi-fi.

Sound quality
With the EVO3 Gemini connected into my system using a supplied EVO3 Initium power cable (HFC 413), there is a complete absence of noise when I switch on and off a vacuum cleaner plugged into the same wall socket. However, when no mains filters are connected, noise is noticeably present. When playing music through my audio system, including a splendid Philips recording of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade played by the Concertgebouw Orchestra with Herman Krebbers on the solo violin, I am particularly struck by the inky black silences between the musical phrases. This tells me that the noise floor is very low indeed when the EV03 is in situ. This is altogether a very impressive piece of kit. NR
