Welcome to the June 2025 issue!
One of the most enjoyable things about working on HFC is perusing all the many letters and emails we receive every month. While they give our writers the opportunity to offer advice and show off their expertise, the missives I personally relish are the ones that critique the magazine as a whole.

A splendid example arrived from David Mayer who has plenty to say about the content we currently offer, his observations so forensic that we tackle them in detail in Letters on p82. But a couple of the broader points can be discussed here as an appetiser. Mr Mayer is alarmed at the number of headphone reviews we feature and wonders if we wouldn’t be better off sticking to speakers and amps.

It’s a perfectly reasonable point of view, but we seek to reflect what the industry is throwing its weight behind in terms of product releases and also keeping a weather eye on how people choose to access their music which, right now, is more on the move than sitting at home in front of the hi-fi.

We also try to ensure, as best as industry schedules allow, that each issue includes the widest range of kit possible with cartridges, turntables, speakers, amps etc. covered in the reviews and Audiofile news pages.

Something for everyone in other words
