July 2026 issue now on sale!

Back in the Seventies, when hi-fi was somewhat closer to its infancy than it is today, there was an assumption when it came to speakers that the bigger the better and the larger the louder. Friends would try to outdo and impress one another with the size of their acquisitions and the more they stood out in the room, the more one could boast of their prowess.
Tastes in styles and preferences change and right now the emphasis leans towards space-saving, colour matching and fitting in with the domestic ambience – discreet petit power in other words.
Our cover star this month, Heco’s Direkt Premium retro-modern floorstanders buck this trend. They’re a throwback to the visual and audio oomph of those bygone monsters, head designer Martin Gross talking in terms of: “revisiting the principles of classic cinema speakers, but with modern driver technology and manufacturing precision”.
There’s plenty of them to get to grips and grapple with on p56. Also, in this issue we foresee a vinyl catastrophe, uncover the illustrious history of HiFi Rose and bring you news of Apple Corps’ first official Beatles attraction, opening in London’s Savile Row next year.
Pretty much something for everyone then...
Enjoy!
