Ophidian launches Voodoo floorstanding loudspeaker

British manufacturer Ophidian has launched Voodoo, a 1.3m-tall three-way floorstanding loudspeaker featuring the company’s Aeroflex bass loading system and boasting a claimed sensitivity of 87dB into 4ohm loads. Its dual 265mm drivers feature thick black anodised aluminium cones, dual voice coils and triple shorting rings with the aim of reducing distortion. The company says they’re capable of displacing over an inch of movement and producing solid bass extension down to 26Hz.

The single 180mm mid/bass driver also features black anodised aluminium cones with solid aluminium phase plugs and is loaded within its own damped sub-enclosure so that the external walls of the cabinet aren’t able to colour the sound.

The 22mm fabric soft dome tweeter with a Sonomex dome features a large magnet in a bid for excellent transient response and the large roll surround allows a quoted response extending beyond 20kHz.

Voodoo sits on a plinth, which has been CNC machined from a solid block of aluminium and weighs 11kg alone. As with all Ophidian loudspeakers, the crossover exclusively uses parts from Mundorf while the binding posts are from WBT. The Voodoo comes in a Walnut finish, but custom polyester paint finishes will be available for an extra charge in any colour the customer desires.

Available to buy now for £14,000, you can find out more about Ophidian's Voodoo speaker here.
