Piega unveils Premium Wireless Gen2 lineup

Swiss company Piega has launched an updated version of its wireless, active high-end loudspeaker system with advanced streaming options, the Premium Wireless Gen2. There are three models in the new Premium Wireless Gen2 lineup, all support Apple Airplay, Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect, DNLA and Bluetooth, are Roon Ready and, the company says, everything in the range is: “versatile, simple to set up, easy to use and connect wirelessly to a wide range of sources using the separately available Piega connect plus as a hub”.

The Premium 301 Wireless Gen2, Premium 501 Wireless Gen2 and Premium 701 Wireless Gen2 boast two upgrades over the first-generation models. Piega has dispensed with bass reflex porting in favour of sealed cabinets. The company says the move benefits impulse reproduction and low-frequency precision and allows greater flexibility in placement, for example in the corner of a room. The iOS version of the Control app and an iPhone can also be used to calibrate the speakers to the existing room acoustics and the placement in the frequency range below 500Hz. Further tonal adjustments to the listener’s taste and room acoustics in the mid and high frequencies are possible using the equaliser in the app. All models of the new Premium Wireless Gen2 Series are equipped with exclusive Swiss-made Linear Drive Ribbon tweeters.

The Premium 501 Wireless Gen2 and 701 Wireless Gen2 floorstanders are fully active three-way designs with each driver having its own amplifier branch – with a claimed 180W or 200W respectively.

The Premium 501 Wireless Gen2 costs £5,950 per pair (aluminium) or £6,350 (black or white) and pairs the aforementioned LDR tweeter with a 120mm MDS midrange driver and four 120mm bass drivers. Dimensions are 160 x 1,010 x 210mm (WxHxD) and it weighs 22kg.

The Premium 701 Wireless Gen2 increases the size of the midrange and four bass drivers to 140mm. It weighs 29kg, has 180 x 1,060 x 230mm dimensions and costs £7,500 (aluminium) or £7,900 (black or white).

The Premium 301 Wireless Gen2 standmount is priced at £2,950 per pair for the aluminium finish or £3,350 for the black or white. It has 140mm mid/bass driver, the same LDR tweeter as its siblings and 100W power output. Dimensions are 180 x 340 x 230m and it weighs 9kg.

The preamplifier section – including built-in DAC and control system – comes in the shape of the Piega connect and Piega connect Plus hubs. The former costs £290, has a line in, optical and coaxial inputs, plus line out and Bluetooth – with support for SBC, AAC and aptX. The signal transmission to the speakers is completely lossless and uncompressed, with a resolution of up to 24-bit/96kHz. The only connection required for each speaker is a power cable.

The Piega connect plus costs £590 and increases the range of connections to include a pair of RCA sockets and a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack plus one coaxial and three optical digital inputs and integrated streaming clients. There’s a USB Type B port for direct connection to a PC alongside HDMI ARC for hookup to a TV.
