Welcome to the September 2025 issue!
One of the most rewarding – and stressful! – things about editing HFC is pulling together the front cover. As it’s an advert for what you’ll find inside the magazine, the contents kind of pick themselves and, as we’ve made a concerted effort to ensure that as many varied types of products as possible are featured in the issue, there should be a wide range of kit displayed on the front.

Choosing the main cover star, though, is a mite more complicated. For starters our choice has to be a spectacularly excellent product, but that goes without saying as we don’t waste time on duffers. Then it has to be something reasonably affordable as one of our main objectives is always to promote great stuff that isn’t out of financial reach.

And finally, of course, it has to look brilliant so it stands a chance of attracting anyone browsing for a read. This month I think we’ve got it spot on.

Not only is the Unison Research Simply Italy Black Edition (p60) one of the best bargain integrated tube amplifiers we’ve ever come across, but there’s surely no denying it’s a handsome beast to boot.
