Focal unveils Aria K2 906 standmount speaker

French company Focal has added a bookshelf and centre speaker to its Aria K2 range to work alongside the Aria K2 936 floorstanding speaker launched last year. Featuring the company’s next-generation K2 cone – an aramid fibre cone evolved from the Polykevlar cone featured on classic Eighties JMLab speakers – Focal’s engineers reveal that the new additions have been: “engineered to improve the balance between weight, rigidity and damping, with the goal of guaranteeing high-quality audio performance with any genre”.

The all-new K2 cone is now composed of a light foam layer, sandwiched between a layer of Aramid fibres and a layer of fibreglass, with the aim of ensuring clear and precise sound, void of any colouration. Designed to complement the cones are aluminium/magnesium TNF tweeters, with Poron suspension.

The Aria K2 906 and Aria K2 Centre both feature an ultra-rigid cabinet construction, with non-parallel elements in order to reduce vibrations and come in an Ash Grey finish with a leather-effect front panel that is exclusive to the French manufacturer. The Aria K2 906 measures 225 x 390 x 280mm (WxHxD), weighs 8.5kg and will set you back £1,200 a pair. Meanwhile, the K2 Centre measures 533 x 200 x 245mm (WxHxD), weighs 10.5kg and costs £750.
