Wharfedale Diamond 11 Series

The latest incarnation of the classic range of loudspeakers incorporates eight new models

Since 1981, Wharfedale has been making an attractive entry point into hi-fi sound quality with its Diamond series of loudspeakers, enticing audio fans with their fine design and performance. The latest range, unveiled at the High End
Show in Munich, comprises eight new models: three two-way standmounts – Diamond 11.0 (£160), 11.1 (£270) and 11.2 (£350), a 2.5-way floorstander – 11.3 (£600) plus two three-way floorstanders – 11.4 (£780) and 11.5 (£1,000) and two centre speakers for surround sound installations – 11.CC (£150) and 11.CS (£230). The Series 11 represents the most significantly enhanced Diamond series in years and sees the return to the elegantly curved cabinet sides sported by the Diamond 9 and Diamond 10 ranges, giving the affordable speakers a distinctly premium look.

For the Diamond 11 Series, Wharfedale’s engineers have refined the multi-layer sandwich of woods and critical bracing of the cabinet panels, together with the curving of the cabinet to reduce resonances. Mid/bass drivers utilise Kevlar cones – a favourite with previous Diamond designs – partnered with a new textile tweeter driver. Wharfedale's director of acoustic design Peter Comeau told HFC: "When Wharfedale launched the very first Diamond in 1981, the company defined a new class of speaker that delivered genuine hi-fi accuracy and musical brio at a remarkably affordable price. Since then, every iteration of the famous Diamond line has adhered to that tradition, but improved upon it.

"With the Diamond 11 Series we started afresh, taking established Diamond design features and incorporating them into entirely redesigned speakers, superior in every way from the cabinets, to the drive units, to the crossover".

The Diamond 11 Series is available now in a choice of black, white, walnut and rosewood finishes. Click here to find out more. Look out for our full and in-depth reviews scheduled for later this year.
